Q. What is VoIP?
A. VoIP (which stands for “Voice over Internet Protocol”) is a service that converts voice transmission over a broadband connection instead of your standard phone line. Callers won’t notice a difference. Our VoIP service replaces your current local and long distance services and will work with your existing telephone. You can keep your existing phone and you will dial the phone the same way you do today. VoIP is a great service that can offer you features that you have come to expect such as Caller ID, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding and Voice Mail.

Q. Does it come with 911?
A. Yes, you will be able to dial 911 with 702’s VoIP service. It is important that you know that 911 calling works differently with VoIP than with traditional phone service. During the sign-up process you will be required to give 702 a Service Address. This address will also serve as your registered 911 address. If you move locations you must notify 702 Communications so they are able to update your address in the 911 records. Please keep in mind that 911 dialing will not function in the event of a broadband or power outage or if your broadband service is terminated. Customers should always be prepared to give their location and information when calling 911 and always have a back-up source to make 911 calls.

Q. What is E911?
A. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandated that all VoIP providers must provide Enhanced 911 (E911) service to new customers. E911 is the most advanced 911 service available and is able to locate your phone number and location immediately when you call 911. When you sign up for VoIP service, 702 will enter the service address that you will be making your calls from. A. You will not need to purchase a special phone. A 702 technician will come to your house and set up the VoIP service for you at no charge. Additionally you will need:

  1. A pre-qualified Internet connection.
  2. A phone adapter, Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA), which can be purchased through 702 and applied to your bill.
  3. Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) While this is not a required piece of equipment, 702 strongly recommends that all customers have some type of back up continuous power source when utility power is not available during unexpected power disruptions. Your VoIP service is dependent on your broadband connection which is dependent on your power. UPSs are available for purchase through 702 for $59.99 and can be applied to your bill.
